Chapter 5: Making History, Page 33: A Synematic Disappointment - A Very Brief Explanation of Synema

In the last update I mentioned how I would give a more detailed explanation of Synema.

Katrika was right, it is technologically induced synaesthesia.

There have been pretty massive leaps in neuroscience in the world of StarHammer since 1985. While not everything is completely understood, there is enough for some breakthrough commercial applications that simply don't exist in our world. One of which is technologically induced synaesthesia. This isn't even the first time we've seen it. It was going on near constantly at the party at RAF's house.

Now I could get into how Drs. Kirk and Dunwood were pioneers in exploring the effects of psychic activity on human neurology, but you probably just want me to get to the point.

As per the FDA's rules, technologically induced synaesthesia has an acceptable rating before it risks brain damage (or in some cases adverse mental influence (more colloquially referred to as mind control)). Not everyone is susceptible to the sort synaesthesia or telepathy/mental influence in that range. Unfortunately for Evey, outside of a few exceptions, she doesn't fit into that range.

It's sorta like living in a world that has super awesome 3D but lacking depth perception for some reason.

Anyway, this is the end of Chapter 5. Chapter 6 starts Friday.

Hope you all enjoy this page!
